About ImageHush

File privacy should be understandable.

ImageHush is an independent browser-based privacy tool for people who want to understand what is stored inside an image or document before they share it.

The project started with a simple concern. Many metadata tools ask users to upload the same private file they are trying to clean. ImageHush takes a local-first approach instead. Supported scanning and cleanup run in the browser, and selected files are not sent to an ImageHush application server.

What we build

The current tools inspect and clean supported metadata in JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, HEIC, HEIF, TIFF, PDF, DOCX, XLSX and PPTX files. Results are grouped into plain-language categories so people can make a practical decision without reading raw binary structures or hundreds of technical tags.

How we test the tools

Image cleanup is checked by scanning the generated copy for the same supported EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, comment and embedded C2PA groups. Document tests create PDF and modern Office fixtures containing supported properties, clean them, reopen the result and confirm that the targeted fields are no longer reported.

These tests cover the behavior we claim. They do not turn a browser utility into a forensic, redaction or authenticity service, which is why limitations are stated throughout the site. The current assertions and evidence levels are published in the metadata cleaner test-results report.

Our product principles

Who maintains the content?

Product documentation and privacy guides are maintained by ImageHush alongside the code and test fixtures. Pages show a reviewed date when technical behavior has been checked against the current version of the tool.
